This course is designed for MCLA students who have an interest in learning beginning guitar. In this class students will learn how to hold and strum the guitar. Students will learn the string names and notes on the strings. Students will learn how to play chords. Students enrolled in Guitar will also be in Music Theory, where they will learn how to read sheet music.

Here you can find the string names of the guitar. These are the notes that you hear when you play an open string. These are the notes you are looking for when you are tuning your guitar.
You will be playing in a seated position using your right hand to strum and your left hand to play the notes on the fretboard. Even if you are left handed, the guitar requires ambidexterity (The use of two hands at once) so you will be able to hold the guitar the same way as a right handed person.
Here are basic music theory symbols that you need to know in order to play songs on the guitar. Use this page as a study guide until you feel comfortable remembering the note names and recognizing the symbols.
You might recognize some of these songs. Focus on your rhythm as well as the correct notes.
